If you’re staying at AX Sunny Coast Resort & Spa this summer, there’s a bunch of things to do in the vicinity and around the island. Summer is in Malta is quite an experience, as it is the season of parties, festivals and late nights, in various locations around the island, bringing together locals and visitors alike. If you’re a partygoer and music lover, summer in Malta is just what the doctor ordered.
Of course, it isn’t all about parties during this time. The summer months also see each village get decked out in their respective colours to celebrate their patron saint. Malta village feasts are a mix of religious traditions and now topped with festival-like customs including street parties, both traditional and commercial music, local cuisine and of course, lots and lots of booze.
Here are our event recommendations for an unforgettable summer in Qawra!
Summer Daze is a huge seven-day festival happening between 10th and 17th August this year, held in Floriana and neighbouring St Paul’s Bay. It’s a week of sick music and international artists. Previous years have seen the likes of James Arthur, David Guetta, Tyga and more performing live during this festival.
Another one for the party goers! Glitch Festival is one for the house and techno lovers and is a dynamic festival that is never hosted at the same place. Be it a rooftop pool party, secret cave rave or raging boat party, Glitch Festival isn’t for newbies. The opening party will be happening under the Valletta fortifications while the rest of the locations are set to be announced. Happening between 13th and 16th August, this festival is hosting a multitude of DJs and artists this year. Check them out here!
During your stay in Malta, you’ve got to at least attend one local feast. They’re part of local tradition and there’s one happening practically every weekend. St Paul’s Bay celebrates Our Lady of Sorrows on 31st July (yes, ironically not St Paul himself). The town is just a short bus ride away from Sunny Coast and it’s well-attended by many locals. Participate in the events and don’t forget to try out local street food!
One of the biggest annual events is Malta Music Week. It sees the likes of A-list performers tear up the local stage at the Floriana Granaries and in various nightclubs around the island. It’s a jam-packed week full of good music and summer vibes. There are a bunch of pool parties, boat parties and nights out at top locations featuring some of the very best in the music industry. If you’re a partygoer, then you wouldn’t want to miss this!
Last but not least, the Qawra feast! The Qawra parish is fairly new compared to other grand cathedrals and churches around the island. It started operating as a parish church in 2004 and its patron saint is St Francis of Assisi. It’s a modern church, in fact, also servicing those living in Buġibba. Take to the streets, chat with locals and enjoy a pint of your favourite local beer this summer!
